DESCRIPTION: Length up to 7mm. A smart species with both sexes sporting a gap between the eyes although the males is somewhat narrower. Both sexes have yellow-gold abdomens with the colour extending into tergite one. The bright green thorax has pale corners that make for a key ID feature. Both sexes also have 4 spines on the scutellum, a glossy green frons and clear yellow humeri. BEHAVIOUR: The terrestrial larvae can be found in damp soils and rot-holes in trees. Males can sometimes be found swarming under tree foliage under isolated trees or along woodland rides but are best caught by sweeping. DISTRIBUTION: A localised species mainly found in southern England but there has been a slight progression northwards. HABITAT: Woodland and mature scrub. PERIOD: Best seen late July to late August.
